Good preparation for U21 football trials can make a real difference to your performance. The aim is not to impress with every touch, but to show your ability, understanding of the game, attitude and value to the team.

1. Arrive Match-Fit

A football trial is not the time to start getting fit. Prepare well in advance so you can maintain your intensity, concentration and decision-making throughout the session.

2. Don’t Try to Impress With Every Touch

Play your natural game. Coaches and scouts are not looking for a player who tries to do something spectacular every time they receive the ball. Make good decisions, play simply when needed and show that you understand your position.

3. Listen to Directions

Pay close attention to the coaches and follow their instructions. Show that you can listen, learn and adapt. How you respond to directions can tell a coach a lot about your attitude and potential.

4. Be a Team Player

Football is a team game. Communicate with your teammates, support them and contribute both with and without the ball. Coaches and scouts want to see players who can make the team better, not just players who are trying to stand out individually.
